When we first laid eyes on the BMW Motorrad Concept R18, we couldn’t help but hold our breath for a moment. This new BMW concept motorcycle is something to marvel at and is ready to take the world by storm. Let’s take a first look at the BMW Motorrad custom bike.
The Concept R18 takes on a natural, original form. Just like most custom works of art, everything that wasn’t needed stayed off the bike. Then, the designers were able to focus wholeheartedly on what was left behind. From that view, everything genuine BMW shows up on this bike. You see the cradle frame, boxer engine, drop-shaped fuel tank and exposed universal shaft. The timeless beauty reminds us of the classics, just like a BMW R5. Then, large spoke wheels are added to provide the perfect balance and firm grounding it needs to be dominant on the road.
What powers this bike is a newly created two-cylinder 1800 cc boxer engine. It reminds us of the flat twin engines once used by BMW Motorrad through the 1960s. The creators took it another step by creating a transmission and engine block out of glass bead-blasted aluminum. These further accent the hand-polished aluminum parts plus the valve covers and belt guard. Finally, your eyes take notice of the chrome-plated universal shaft connecting the drive and the back wheel.
The paint scheme is further classic BMW with the hand-applied white lines found on the fuel tank and fork. This combines with a black base and subtle yellow-gold varnish for the bright lines. It’s just one more way that BMW Motorrad continues to prove it deserves to be the leader in the industry.
